Volaris! is a 6 piece Latin jazz band featuring the styles of Brazilian and Afro-Cuban music and their fusion with jazz. The band features musicians from around the mountain west including Derek Ganong (trumpet), Ben Britton (tenor saxophone/flute), Alex Sjobeck (piano), Abraham Masso III (bass), Derek Munson (drum set), and Dave Gluck (auxiliary percussion). Jazz pianist Alex Sjobeck and jazz adjacent vocal powerhouse Sam Tru have extensive experience performing together and playing at some of the world’s top jazz clubs and performance halls. Alex Sjobeck is also an award winning jazz composer who brings fresh, innovative works to the classic instrumentation of a jazz duo. Sam Tru is known for her original works as well which landed her in Downbeat magazine after the release of her album Cycle which made it to #1 on Amazon’s Top 100 New Releases. Alex Sjobeck began her career in New York City while Sam Tru began hers on the west coast creating a unique variety of influence in the music they produce together.

Everyone gets to taste and vote, and the soup with the most votes will earn the title of Soup Queen or King—plus a bottle of Coiled Wine! Whether you’re a seasoned cook or just love making soup, we’d love to have you join in the fun.

Join us for an afternoon with Lindsay Rae Art! Create, sip, and be merry. Join in on a 2 hour workshop and learn how to make a framed floral artwork. Each ticket includes an 8x10” recycled frame, pressed flowers, choice of white or black background, and other supplies needed to create your very own masterpiece. This class offers an opportunity to learn about flowers while diving into your own creativity. In-demand modern jazz vocalist Jenna McLean joins the Alex Sjobeck Trio featuring New York City based drummer Chris Smith and Mountain West bassist Braun Khan. Jenna McLean is an accomplished modern jazz vocalist with a penchant for celebrating timeless standards with improvisational prowess, swing and simplicity that feels familiar yet contemporary. Jenna was a semi-finalist in the 2023 American Traditions Vocal Competition and the 2019 winner of the Downbeat Student Music Awards Graduate Vocal Soloist Category. She has performed at countless renowned venues nationwide and has had the pleasure of performing alongside renowned musicians such as Joel Frahm, Pat Coil, Bobby McFerrin, Aubrey Logan and the New York Voices.Drummer Chris Smith is a performing artist, author, and educator based in New York City. He has performed with a wide variety of jazz musicians including Randy Brecker, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Dick Oatts, and vocalist Patti Austin. As the drummer in the Birdland Big Band he performs every Friday at the world-famous NYC club.

Pianist Alex Sjobeck and one of her usual sidemen, Moscow bassist Josh Skinner, team up with in-demand Salt Lake City musicians Josiah Boornazian, tenor saxophone, and Parker Swenson, drums, for a night of new, innovative jazz music.  Each musician will be contributing original pieces to the set taking the audience through a journey of new sounds inspired by jazz, classical, pop, rock, and world music.

Now that the patio is officially open, join us for an evening on the patio with one of our favorite Boise artists, Wes Schlag. He recently released a new song: Soul divide, featuring an OG/ favorite member of Coiled, Meredith Schmidt! 

Join us for another Jazz Night here at Coiled! Alex Sjobeck, Braun Khan, and Josh Skinner unite for a unique jazz show with a rare instrumentation centered around the double bass. The groove-based trio consists of piano and two double basses which play off each other and take untraditional roles to create works of musical art. They will present a variety of jazz arrangements including a few new arrangements from the JAZZ X CLASSICAL projects (modern jazz works inspired by classical pieces). A double bass feature will also be showcased with the two basses performing duo, filling out the music and groove in exceptionally technical and intricate ways
